Spring in the Dali Old Town - Yunnan - China
00:51:29
miytube
6 Views · 1 year ago

At the heart of Yunnan Province, Dali has long been a regional centre of commerce, being located at a crossroads of trade routes between China, Burma, and Southeast Asia. The Bai People first settled the region 3000 years ago. Dali was capital of two large kingdoms from the 8th and 10th centuries, until conquered by the Mongols in the 12th century. The present Old Town was rebuilt by the Ming dynasty in the beginning of the 14th century. It has been preserved in a 1.5 by 1.5 km wide townsite surrounded by its ancient walls. Due to its relatively well-preserved architecture, the town has developed as a major tourist attraction in recent decades. 00:33 - The South Gate. The South Gate, the first of the four ancient gates of the old city, was built in the 15th year of the Ming Hongwu reign (1382 AD). The characters on the gate represent the country's name, meaning "Great Rule, Great Dali, Prosperous Nation and Flourishing People". The South Gate tower was rebuilt in 1984, maintaining the original Ming Dynasty architectural style.06:50 - Wuhua Building is located in the center of Dali Ancient City and was the guesthouse for ancient Nanzhao kings. Today, the area around Wuhua Building has developed into a book and painting market with a variety of merchandise, including calligraphy, Chinese painting of landscapes, flowers and birds, figures, as well as active trading of leather paintings, oil paintings, and more.13:05 - The Confucian Temple, a temple dedicated to the god who governs the literary and examination fields, originated in China and spread throughout East Asia. The main hall inside the Confucian Temple enshrines Confucius. Dali Confucian Temple is located in the southwest of the ancient city and was founded in the 14th century.22:34 - Cathedral of the Sacred Heart of Jesus of Dali. The Cathedral of the Sacred Heart of Jesus of Dali is the cathedral of the Catholic Diocese of Dali. Catholicism was introduced to the Dali area before 1856 and was managed by the Paris Foreign Missions Society. In 1922, the French Missionaries of the Sacred Heart of Jesus and Mary sent missionary Pierre Erdozaincy Etchard to Dali to take over the Catholic Church gradually. In 1925, Etchard presided over the construction of the Dali Catholic Church, which was completed in 1931. The craftsmen who built the church were Bai artisans from Taihe Village in Dali.33:17 - Honglongjing Old Street. A clear stream flows all year round, which is fed by the clear springs flowing down from Cangshan Mountain, and winds through the streets and the city. It is composed of water channels, cascading water, waterfalls, and small landscapes.39:00 - The South Gate Mosque in Dali, established in the Yuan Dynasty, was converted to Chenghuang Temple at the end of the 19th century and then to the local court in 1944. It is now a mosque for the Hui Muslim community.41:48 - Wumiao, or the Temple of Martial Arts, is a temple that honors ancient Chinese generals and military commanders. It has gone through various changes in the number of generals it honors over the course of history, and the tradition of Wumiao has also spread to other countries in the Chinese cultural sphere, such as Korea and Vietnam. The Wumiao in Dali was built in 1384 during the Ming Dynasty and is also known as Guandi Temple. It is nearly as old as the ancient city itself and is the main temple for the worship of the famous Three Kingdoms general, Guan Yu. The temple has since been rebuilt and is now used as an antiques market, with the main hall closed off.48:13 - Yuer Park, covering an area of 17600 square meters, was originally the Dali Agricultural and Forestry Experiment Station in the late Qing Dynasty and later became a fruit tree nursery base for the forestry department. Yuer Park features the essence of Bai ethnic architecture, with a Bai ethnic archway with upturned eaves and elegant and exquisite three-sided screens, as well as a surrounding wall with painted eaves. The park is centered around Bai ethnic flower terraces of various shapes inlaid with stones, and planted with famous flowers and exotic plants from Dali. The park also features areas for elderly activities, tea rooms, as well as steles, stone archways, and ponds, creating a rich and interesting traditional garden of the Dali ancient city.Location: https://goo.gl/maps/Sg68r9S5TzvskZ2Z7Filmed 31st March, 2023Filmed Using DJI Pocket 2

This video is the second part of the Wuhan Double-Decker Bus Tour - Hankou Hanyang. For the first part, please see the video at https://youtu.be/Gi4owAPtZpo00:33 - Hankow Customs House Museum. In 1861, according to the Treaty of Tianjin signed between China and the UK, the Chinese government was required to open up Hankou as a foreign trade port and establish a customs office. Hankow Customs, located in Hankou, was established in November 1861. This customs building was laid the foundation on the 60th anniversary of the establishment of Hankow Customs and completed in 1924. It was designed and supervised by the British firm Jardine Matheson & Co. Ltd. The 4-story customs building covers an area of 1499 square meters, with a main building of four stories and a height of 45.85 meters, and a clock tower of five stories and a height of 23.1 meters, making it the tallest building in Wuhan at that time. The building is in the Renaissance style, with a three-part composition and an elegant clock tower in the center. The punctual chimes of the clock have always been a part of city life in Wuhan. Since 1924, the Westminster Overture has been played at Hankow Customs. During the Cultural Revolution, it was replaced with "The East Is Red," but in 1987, it was changed back to "Westminster" and has been used ever since.00:43 - Exterior of the red double-decker bus01:12 - Riverside Avenue. There are several docks along the way, and the embankment of the Yangtze River is on the left.03:48 - In the distance, you can see the Tortoise Mountain TV Tower and the Qingchuan Bridge spanning the Han River.07:20 - Qingchuan Bridge. It spans the Han River, connecting Hankou and Hanyang, and officially opened in 2001. The Han River is the largest tributary of the Yangtze River, with a total length of 1,577 kilometers, joining the Yangtze River at Hankou, Wuhan. The confluence is on the left side of the bridge.09:20 - Iron Gate Pass, originally built around AD 200 during the era of cold weapons, actively and effectively playing its military role. After several wars and destruction, the pass was rebuilt in 1990.14:31 - Hanyang street view. Nearby are Carrefour, shopping malls, restaurants, etc.18:25 - Wuhan Yangtze River Bridge. (For a detailed introduction, please see another video: https://youtu.be/Qt0NYmkdJKk)22:00 - Yellow Crane Tower. The Yellow Crane Tower is located on Snake Mountain, one of China's four famous towers. It has 5 floors and is 50.4 meters high. The current structure was built in 1981, but the tower has existed in various forms from as early as AD 223. 26:15 - Turning around at the pier of the Yangtze River Bridge.26:57 - In the distance are the Yingwuzhou Yangtze River Bridge and the high-rises of Hanyang.31:53 - Shouyi Square, commemorating the Wuchang Uprising. The Wuchang Uprising marked the end of China's 2,000-year feudal imperial system and promoted the transformation of China's political landscape.Wuhan is located in central China at the confluence of the Yangtze and Han rivers. Benefiting from convenient waterway transportation, Wuhan has historically been a prosperous trading port and regional hub, divided into three districts: Wuchang, Hankou, and Hanyang. However, on the other hand, Wuhan has also been hit hard by severe floods multiple times. Many significant historical events have taken place in Wuhan, the most famous of which is the Wuchang Uprising in 1911. This uprising ended the 2000-year imperial rule and brought profound changes to China's political situation. The starting point of this video is the square commemorating the Wuchang Uprising (please watch another video for a different bus route in Wuhan). Wuhan also briefly served as the capital of China. In 1937, this city was the wartime capital of China for ten months.Today, Wuhan is a "university city" with 94 higher education institutions and a total of over one million university students. Wuhan is hot and humid in the summer and is one of the four major "furnace" cities in China. It has passionate citizens and a rich breakfast culture, and famous local cuisine includes Wuhan hot-dry noodles and tofu skin.Location: https://goo.gl/maps/wiEj9y8HVnZxRz6e9Filmed 7th April, 2023Filmed Using DJI Pocket 2

China's first-ever bridge across the Yangtze River - Wuhan Yangtze River Bridge
00:15:34

5 Views · 1 year ago

The Wuhan Yangtze River Bridge is located in Wuhan, Hubei Province, China. It spans the Yangtze River between the Tortoise Mountain and the Snake Mountain. It is the first bridge on the Yangtze River to accommodate both railway and highway traffic and is therefore also known as the "First Bridge of the Yangtze River."The bridge's planning began in the 1910s but was delayed due to economic and wartime factors. After the founding of the People's Republic of China, the measurement and design of the bridge began officially in 1950. Construction started in 1955 and was completed in October 1957 when it was opened to traffic. When the bridge opened, many parents in Wuhan named their newborns after the bridge, resulting in numerous people with names such as "Big Bridge", "Building Bridge", and "Love Bridge". According to statistics from 2007, there were 28,298 people with the character "bridge" in their names in Wuhan.Currently, there are over 200 bridges on the Yangtze River. As the first generation of the Yangtze River Bridge, the Wuhan Yangtze River Bridge has more piers and shorter spans, which significantly increases the likelihood of being hit by ships. The bridge has been hit nearly 100 times. The most serious one occurred on the morning of June 6, 2011, when a 10,000-ton oil tanker collided with the 7th pier of the bridge due to a sudden fog, fortunately without causing significant damage to the bridge.00:20 - On the bridge deck01:15 - The Yangtze River. The red suspension bridge in the distance is the Yingwuzhou Yangtze River Bridge, with a total length of 3.42 km and a main span of 850 meters. It is currently the world's largest three-tower and four-span suspension bridge.04:14 - View of Wuchang Old Town02:20 - The traditional Chinese-style building in the distance is the Yellow Crane Tower, located on the Snake Mountain07:10 - The newly-built high-rise buildings in Hanyang District10:32 - Bridge arches and piers12:11 - Ferry crossing the river and buildings in Hankou13:08 - Tortoise Mountain TV Tower and the bridge13:12 - The Waterfront Steps.
