China's first-ever bridge across the Yangtze River - Wuhan Yangtze River Bridge

The Wuhan Yangtze River Bridge is located in Wuhan, Hubei Province, China. It spans the Yangtze River between the Tortoise Mountain and the Snake Mountain. It is the first bridge on the Yangtze River to accommodate both railway and highway traffic and is therefore also known as the "First Bridge of the Yangtze River."The bridge's planning began in the 1910s but was delayed due to economic and wartime factors. After the founding of the People's Republic of China, the measurement and design of the bridge began officially in 1950. Construction started in 1955 and was completed in October 1957 when it was opened to traffic.When the bridge opened, many parents in Wuhan named their newborns after the bridge, resulting in numerous people with names such as "Big Bridge", "Building Bridge", and "Love Bridge". According to statistics from 2007, there were 28,298 people with the character "bridge" in their names in Wuhan.Currently, there are over 200 bridges on the Yangtze River. As the first generation of the Yangtze River Bridge, the Wuhan Yangtze River Bridge has more piers and shorter spans, which significantly increases the likelihood of being hit by ships. The bridge has been hit nearly 100 times. The most serious one occurred on the morning of June 6, 2011, when a 10,000-ton oil tanker collided with the 7th pier of the bridge due to a sudden fog, fortunately without causing significant damage to the bridge.00:20 - On the bridge deck01:15 - The Yangtze River.
