It's more powerful than all the money in the world, more precious than all the gold you could ever own, and worth more than all the riches in existence; yet, it is often undervalued. This precious commodity is something we cannot sell or give away. Whether wealthy or poor, everyone wishes they had more of it, especially when it's used up, because once it's gone, it cannot be purchased or borrowed from anyone else—no one can give it to you, as they cannot spare it.
Each of us has a limited amount of it, and when we exhaust it, there’s no replenishing it. If we could bottle it up, we'd become trillionaires many times over, but sadly, we simply can't.
Vin Diesel, playing Dominic Toretto in the Fast & Furious movies, famously says, "I live my life a quarter mile at a time," suggesting he is racing against something, likely time. When people race or run, they are often up against time itself.
That’s what I’m discussing here: time. It is more powerful than money, more precious than gold, and worth more than any earthly riches, yet it is frequently taken for granted. Time is so special that we cannot bottle it up for later.
As we measure it, there are 24 hours in a day, 60 minutes in an hour, and 60 seconds in a minute—these are the increments by which most people around the world organize their lives. We’ve all witnessed how individuals rush through life, burning up their time too quickly, unaware that our time here on Earth is finite.
We organize our lives according to time. We use it to gauge our achievements, track our journeys, and measure many aspects of our existence. However, we often neglect to consider our lifespan until it is too late. It’s only when we find ourselves on our deathbeds that we wish we had more time.
Time is something we should honor and pay careful attention to regarding how, when, and where we use it. Once our time is up, we cannot go back and ask for a redo. There are no second chances; when your time is over, it is gone forever. Unlike sports, where overtime exists, no one can grant you an extra month, year, or more; when your time is up, that is simply it.
Let me pose a question: when your time is up, will you be among those who wish they had more time? Will you find yourself saying, "If only I had more time, I would have done this or that"?
It’s important to understand that time has an undefeated record against all people—men, women, and children alike. Whether you are rich or poor, no one in the last hundred years has beaten time, and no one ever will. Time's record will remain pristine for generations to come.
In biblical times, a wise man named Solomon had profound insights about time. In the King James Version of Ecclesiastes 3:1-8, he stated: "To everything there is a season, and a time to every purpose under heaven: 2. A time to be born, and a time to die; a time to plant, and a time to pluck up that which is planted; 3. A time to kill, and a time to heal; a time to break down, and a time to build up; 4. A time to weep, and a time to laugh; a time to mourn, and a time to dance; 5. A time to cast away stones, and a time to gather stones together; a time to embrace, and a time to refrain from embracing; 6. A time to get, and a time to lose; a time to keep, and a time to cast away; 7. A time to rend, and a time to sew; a time to keep silence, and a time to speak; 8. A time to love, and a time to hate; a time of war, and a time of peace."
Solomon understood the significance of time and the importance of valuing our time on Earth. He highlighted that there is a time for every purpose. Most importantly, we should make time to reflect on life itself. In the end, don’t wait until the last minute to look back or reflect on your time before it fades away.
